Transparency in labor contracts - a discussion
Transparent operations are key to good government. Currently, the County negotiates with nine separate labor unions to arrive at contracts that bind county citizens to specific performances; historically these negotiations have been conducted behind closed doors, which is an odd contradiction to the widely supported policy of transparency if at all possible.
In recent years the Freedom Foundation (formerly the Evergreen Freedom Foundation, co-founded by Cowlitz County’s own Bob Williams; see here for FF history) has focused on transparency in negotiations between unions and government entities. On the 26th of September, the Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) will hold a special Tuesday night session to address transparency in negotiations with our unions. The Freedom Foundation will make a presentation to explain the case for a resolution to open negotiations to the public, and they will update us on pertinent activities to date. Following the presentation, the meeting will be open to the public for comment.
Physical details of the meeting:
Date: 26th of September 2017
Time: 7:00 PM
Location: Commissioners' Hearing Room, Administration Building, Third Floor, 207 Fourth Avenue North, Kelso.
